The Jones Falls Watershed Association gets the job done with the help of volunteers. In 2006 alone, over 650 volunteers have removed 17,000 pounds of trash and 4900 pounds of invasive species from the watershed! If you would like to get involved, we have a number of opportunities to suit your needs, contact us for more information on the following volunteer opportunities:

Monthly Restoration Projects:  The JFWA hosts a monthly project, usually on the Second Saturday of the month. These projects are open to the public, all ages are welcome, no experience is necessary and tools and gloves are provided! Click on our Calendar to see upcoming restoration projects and see how you can get involved.

Stream Watch: Do you have a favorite place along a Jones Falls creek or stream? Consider adopting a section of stream with your family or friends. Stream Watch Volunteers act as our eyes and ears in the watershed, removing trash, reporting any pollution problems, and making sure the stream is as healthy as possible. Most volunteers adopt a quarter-mile or less of stream. You can choose your location, or we can help you find the perfect spot. Click here to download a Stream Watch brochure.

Student Groups: Students - do you need community service hours to fulfill graduation requirements? Teachers – Do you need a project to fulfill grant obligations or just want to get your kids outside? The JFWA will work with you to set up a meaningful and age-appropriate service learning project to fit your needs.

Corporate Groups: Let the JFWA arrange an exciting and significant project for your group. Past corporate events have included tree plantings, invasive plant removals, and trash clean-ups.

Jones Falls Valley Celebration: Many hands will be needed to make the next Valley Celebration, scheduled for September 16, 2007, a success. Sign up early to get the best jobs!

Office Work: Interested in something indoors? The JFWA occasionally has office work such as stuffing envelopes, data entry or special projects in the office. Contact us to get on our list and we’ll let you know when a project arises.

Photographers: We are always in need of photographers at our restoration projects or special events, or submit photos from around the watershed for us to us in newsletters and on our website.

Writers: Do you have a Jones Falls- related topic to contribute to our newsletter? Write away and we’ll see where it fits in to our publications.

Outreach: Present the JFWA at community events or distribute JFWA newsletters and flyers to libraries, community centers, or other gathering places.

These are just some of the opportunities you can become involved as an active member of the JFWA. Tell us more about your specialized interests on our Volunteer Interest Form or contact Suzanne Greene at 410-366-3036 or sgreene@jonesfalls.org.
